An integrative practitioner does not want you to be passive in your health decisions. But what do you say when you're not sure if you agree with their approach? Practicing some of these responses can keep you in the driver's seat.
How do I ask for clarification?
Say, "Help me understand this better."
How do I express apprehension?
Try, "I have a few concerns about something you mentioned."
How do I bring up my previous experiences?
Say, "Let me tell you about my history with that."
How do I invite more options?
Try, "I'd like to discuss some alternatives first."
How do I request research?
Say, "Are there any studies or data we can review?"
How do I give myself time to think?
Try, "This is a lot to process so let's revisit it next visit."
How do I respectfully disagree?
Say, "I respect your knowledge on this, but from my point of view ..."
How do I ask for a second opinion?
Try, "I want to be sure we explore all angles, so ..."
Awkward happens, but alignment is always possible when you get the words out!
